Manikandan is the childhood name of Lord Ayyappa, a prominent Hindu deity primarily worshipped in South India. The name means "the one with a bell" (mani meaning bell/jewel, kandanmeaning neck), because the child was found wearing a radiant bell around his neck when discovered by King Rajasekhara of Pandalam.
